The Story of the 356th Fighter Group Restaurant

The 356th Fighter Group Restaurant is the area's only authentic WW!! restaurant dedicated to the heroes of the war. The 356th Fighter Group was an actual airborne team that saw combat in the European Theater. Three squadrons of planes (the 359th, 360th, and 361st) made up the 356th Fighter Group. These Pilots flew the P-47 Thunderbolt and then the famed P-51 Mustang while escorting the B-17 Bombers across the English Channel to safety. This group was stationed at the Martelsham Heath Airfiled in Suffolk, England. The 356th Fighter Group completed a total of 413 combat missions. It is to these brave and courageous men that we dedicate our restaurant.

Our restaurant & cabaret is located on the south runways of the Akron/Canton Airport. Huge windows overlook the airport runways to enable our guests to view the building and its grounds. Our business specializes in elegant casual dining with banquet facilities and off premise catering through our Commanders Catering Company.

Travel back in time to a simpler era as this restaurant is a timeless concept in a unique setting that takes you back to the WWII era.

The restaurant has a long and positive history, being one of the most successful independently-owned eateries in the tri-county area. The restaurant is decorated in 1940's style with specially milled carpet and table cloths that bring out the flair and ambiance of the era. The Fighter Group boasts one of the area's biggest and best cabarets, featuring the area's top dance bands and musicians. If you want to cut the rug, we are the place to be, featuring top acts such as LaFlavour, New Wave Nation, and some of the best entertainment acts coming from the metro-Cleveland Area. On September 16, 1989, Bob Scofield took control of the operations and turned the business after years of neglect. In September 1990, Bob and Tina Scofield of Green bought the restaurant from Specialty Restaurant Corporation. In 2007, the restaurant celebrated its 21st Anniversary and has become one of the area's largest independent restaurant operations with seating for 700 persons. Our Commanders Catering Company was awarded the opportunity to oversee the operation of the region's newest banquet facility in the City of Green - Roberts Hall at Queen of Heaven Church, a facility offering seating for 500 guests! The Fighter Group itself caters to all groups and sizes while specializing in wedding receptions and banquets of all types!

Our facility and its myriad of operations are overseen by Bob Scofield who is on-site daily to ensure that our guests are completely and totally satisfied. With the expertise of owners Bob & Tina Scofield, the trained culinary staff, and Computerized Office Management led by Josette Condello, a fourteen year veteran, our company is ready to take care of the most important part of our business - our guests!
